Arriving in her rundown childhood home, she discovers a decades-old mobile telephone, and through it receives calls from a distressed girl who says she's being tortured by her mother.  After investigating the home, Seo-yeon figures out that the girl on the phone, Oh Young-sook, is living in precisely the same house but in 1999.  Both are able to communicate across time through the telephone, and exchange information for their own lives.  

Young-sook, acting on information from Seo-yeon, sneaks from the home to protect against the fire that killed Seo-yeon's father.  She's successful, and Seo-yeon's reality changes: her parents are both living and healthy, and their home lavish.  Young-sook, nevertheless, is punished by her mom, and becomes resentful that Seo-yeon's life is improved while hers is the same. Seo-yeon searches the world wide web and finds that Young-sook was murdered by her mother during an exorcism.  Throughout the following phone call Seo-yeon warns Young-sook, who saves himself and kills her mother instead.  Now freed, Young-sook becomes a serial killer.  Seo-yeon understands what's happened when Young-sook's victims disappear in the present moment.  During a telephone call, Seo-yeon confronts Young-sook, but inadvertently reveals to her that she'll be arrested.

In 1999, Young-sook is seen by an 8-year-old Seo-yeon and her father, who have come to the house to close their order of it.  Young-sook kills Seo-yeon's dad and carries youthful Seo-yeon captive.  In 2019, Seo-yeon's fact changes : her father is dead and the house in even worse condition.  Young-sook calls Seo-yeon and tells her how to learn how she'll be detained.  In the beginning Seo-yeon packs Young-sook untrue advice, but when Young-sook threatens to kill Eun-ae second, Seo-yeon breaks into the local police station to the notebook employed in 1999.  Young-sook taunts Seo-yeon that they're the same, since Seo-yeon resulted in the fire that initially murdered her daddy, and whined about Eun-ae being accountable. Seo-yeon gives Young-sook the proper information, and her reality changes again: the house is currently owned by a elderly Young-sook, who has continued unstopped as a serial killer.  The content of this laptop changes as well, with a note that Eun-ae came to the house with a police officer and made a call on the cordless phone.  Seo-yeon waits in the home for the call, and uses it to warn Eun-ae. In 1999, Young-sook kills the police officer and chases Eun-ae.  In 2019, older Young-sook shows herself and similarly chases Seo-yeon.  Eun-ae employs the telephone again, and Seo-yeon picks up and encourages her to battle.  Eun-ae apparently sacrifices herself to kill Young-sook, and 2019 changes, with the house becoming derelict and old Young-sook disappearing.  Seo-yeon leaves the home and is emotionally Filled with Eun-ae, who is alive and well, albeit with scars.

At a mid-credits scene, older Young-sook uses the telephone to call her younger counterpart and warn her around Eun-ae and the police officer, allowing her to change her own history, also erasing Eun-ae from Seo-yeon's side.  In the end, the scene cuts into the torture room where a man covered in white cloth is tied into a chair, yelling for help.  The fabric is removed, revealing a fearful Seo-yeon, whom will most likely meet her demise by Young-sook.
